I am Mike. I make wooden flags in my workshop, and I make every one of them myself.

It started because I wanted one for my own garage and could not find anything that was not printed on plastic. So I cut one out of wood. Then a friend wanted one. Then his friend did.

How they get made

Every flag starts as a solid slab. I cut the shape, then work the slats by hand so the flag has real depth — you can run your thumb across it and feel every ridge. The edges get torched, which darkens the grain and makes the colour sit up against it. Then it is painted, coat by coat, with cure time between passes. The checkered sections are masked and laid out square by square.

It takes as long as it takes. I do not batch them and I do not rush the paint, because paint that is rushed looks rushed forever.

Why no two match

Grain runs differently through every slab of wood. Two flags cut to the same pattern will still take the paint a little differently and dry a little differently. That is not a flaw in the process — it is the reason to buy one.

Every flag is signed on the back before it ships.
